These last of winter images are so beautiful, you must be sorry to see it go.

Thank you! If we saw more conditions like this, I would be. But winter’s distinctive registers tend to be rather muffled in this corner of south-west London, and mostly merge into a rather flat lack of differentiation. Most of the images I’m pleased with over the past few months have come in maybe two or three really good days over the whole season. And the whole of this series, plus another half dozen or so that I might post, are the product of a rather intense 45 minutes taking advantage of the unusual conditions. So the turn of the seasons is mostly welcome, even if it does mean having to stir painfully early if I want to catch the dawn light.

        Interesting!

(Intellectually, I know dawn light is really beautiful but when I observe it, it’s always from inside, while I slowly wake up. I usually get out in the afternoon and there can be good light then, too, if not as inspiring).

Yes, for sure. To be honest, I sometimes wonder if making the effort to be out early isn’t at least partly just a way of feeling virtuous and persuading myself that I’m taking my photography seriously.
